Do’s and Don’ts in Web Design

As I said on my About Me page, before getting into the design work of your webpage, there are several things that you need to take into consideration. The purpose of this page is to outline a few of those do’s and don’ts, and hopefully give you some great starter tips that will help you plan your next design.

Now, don’t just take my word for it. There are tons of examples of great design concepts found all over the Internet that follow many of the same rules and guidelines that I talk about. Take online casinos, for example, I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen some pretty impressive casino sites, and the best online casino designs all follow the same general guidelines.

  • The Do’s

Here are some basic examples of things that you will want to do when designing your site. Always make sure that you maintain some kind of uniformity. Whether you are thinking about colour schemes, image styles, menu options, or any other visual element, make sure that everything matches.

Beyond that, you will want to see what types of designs are currently in style. Make sure that you are not working with yesterday’s design concepts, and you should be fine. Also, keep it light. Avoid bogging down your site with huge images and video content. You will want your page to load quickly.

  • The Don’ts

Don’t do what has already been done, and don’t add all kinds of chaotic and confusing elements to your pages that lack any sense of coherence. That is usually the fastest way to tell a novice from a pro.

Well, I hope this helps! I guarantee that if you keep these things in mind, your web design will be much stronger for your efforts. While this is in no way a completely inclusive list of all the things that you should and shouldn’t do, I hope that it is enough to give you an idea of where to begin.

Happy designing!
